Helpful Gifts, Hopeful Homes

Christmas has always been a favorite holiday among Filipinos. However, many of our kababayans’ festive spirit has been greatly affected by the pandemic—losing their jobs, loved ones, and hope. This year, we wish to give them reasons to celebrate by bringing back goodness into their lives.

Send your loved ones in the Philippines curated gifts that give back & celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.

Every purchase of Kusina ng Kalinga (KnK) gift bundle donates a meal to an undernourished child, provides sustainable jobs to Filipinos, supports social entrepreneurs, and gives genuinely natural products safe for your loved ones and the environment.

Human Nature has always prioritized and sought ways to give back and help alleviate poverty, thanks to Gawad Kalinga’s immense influence over the social enterprise.

How Human Nature was born out of Gawad Kalinga’s Mission and Values

It all began with a dream to help the poor.

Human Nature traces its beginnings to an idea that sprung from trips down American grocery aisles.

Its founders, sisters Anna and Camille Meloto, and Dylan Wilk, have 2 things in common – apart from being family (Dylan is also Anna’s husband), they all started as Gawad Kalinga volunteers and advocates, witnessing Tony Meloto’s vision of a poverty-free Philippines where all Filipino citizens work together so that no one can be left behind.

It was when Anna and her growing family (she had a toddler and a 4-month baby in tow) drove through more than 50 American cities in the in 8 weeks to gather support for Gawad Kalinga through Highway of Hope that she noticed a growing trend of affordable, natural, eco-friendly and ethically-made products in the mainstream market.

What was fascinating was that a lot of the popular ingredients in these natural products--coconut, elemi, sugarcane, aloe--were from tropical plants which grew abundantly in the Philippines.

Something clicked. If all these raw materials were in such high demand worldwide, they might just be the key to transforming the quality of life of the poorest sectors.

Camille joined the couple in the US soon after, and they began their in-depth research on natural products. They envisioned a business that would produce high-quality, Philippine-made natural products; one that would restore productivity to the land and impoverished communities. America provided a fertile ground for research in natural beauty, and a fresh way of marketing with values that the co-founders learned from GK. They soon went back to the Philippines and incorporated Gandang Kalikasan Inc., upon the suggestion of GK founder and their father, Tony Meloto. The reference to Gawad Kalinga was no accident as Anna, Camille, and Dylan have always wanted to anchor their company values on GK’s “walang iwanan” battlecry. They established Human Nature with the core foundations of being pro-Philippines, pro-poor and pro-environment.

It's been 12 years, and Human Nature continues its close partnership with Gawad Kalinga, committed to bring people out of poverty to form the new middle class. They do this by paying a living wage which is double the legal minimum wage. They have funded GK villages and fed thousands of Filipinos through their partnership with Kusina ng Kalinga (KnK). In 2014, Gawad Kalinga launched Kusina ng Kalinga (KnK), a feeding program aimed to support impoverished young students, helping them grow, develop, and focus on learning. Today, they have established 160 kitchens nationwide preparing up to 100,000 meals every single day.

Now in 2020, even with a global pandemic, Gawad Kalinga and Human Nature are unwavering in their commitment to help. Just last April and May, despite many uncertainties, Human Nature managed to feed 80,000 people by remembering families of daily wage earners who have lost income and were going hungry. Like the miracle of “5 Loaves and 2 Fish,” Human Nature’s limited funds were multiplied when so many of their friends, family, and even strangers, pitched in to help poor families in Payatas.

This Christmas, Human Nature is offering Kusina ng Kalinga Gift Bundles. Every purchase donates at least 1 meal to hungry children. They believe meaningful gift-giving is sharing genuinely natural essentials to your loved ones and ensuring that KnK continues to reach those who are going hungry during this crisis.

The goal is to feed 10,000 kids! Human Nature wants to share hope with these children, so they, too, can hope for a brighter future.

Worried you don’t have much to give? As Mother Teresa once said, “If you cannot feed a hundred people, then feed just one.”
