Thank you for sharing HOPE this past Christmas!
It is tradition for Filipino families and communities to gather during Christmas time. The season naturally brings the spirit of hope, love and joy to many Filipino communities around the country.
This past December, GK USA was proud to be an integral part in bringing the true spirit of Christmas to 4,000 Filipinos. With the help of the employees and customers of grocery chain Seafood City, Filipino Young Professionals from Houston, Texas, and GK’s generous donors, families experienced the simple tradition of fellowship and thanksgiving, with some areas celebrating Holy Mass, in communities in Bulacan, Paranaque, Las Pinas, Albay, Leyte, Bohol, Samar, Davao and Makilala, North Cotabato. Children and adults alike enjoyed games and simple prizes. Christmas packs with ingredients for noche buena for a family of 5 were also distributed to all those in attendance. Some of these areas were reeling from the devastation brought by typhoon Tisoy, including blackouts and lack of electricity, but these proved to be no match for the true Filipino spirit to shine through.
The Christmas campaign also brought light during the darkest hours of Makilala, North Cotobato, where consecutive earthquakes struck late October and November. One thousand Muslim children from various elementary schools partook of holiday cheer, a bright spot in their recovery from the trauma they recently went through.
In the same spirit, our GK North Carolina supported our mission partner Gkonomics’ annual event called Kiddie Paskuhan (Christmas for Kids).
The smiles on their faces are priceless, and we thank all those who generously gave of themselves — their resources, their time and effort, both in the United States and in the Philippines — to help make this possible for our Filipino brothers and sisters.
